Vigilis Bio is the proprietary biodegradable material at the heart of Vigilis’s sustainable product range. Developed in partnership with UK biotech company Biome Bioplastics<\/strong>, Vigilis Bio is engineered to deliver the same protective performance as conventional polypropylene tree shelters \u2014 with a responsible end-of-life pathway that leaves no persistent plastic in the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Biome Bioplastics Partnership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vigilis partnered with Biome Bioplastics to address one of the most persistent challenges in land management: the removal and disposal of tree shelters after the establishment period. Conventional plastic shelters can remain in woodland and hedgerow plantings for years \u2014 and in many projects, they are never collected at all. Biome Bioplastics developed the specialist biopolymer compound that forms the basis of Vigilis Bio, combining plant-derived feedstocks with advanced polymer chemistry to create a material that degrades naturally in soil-contact conditions without releasing harmful microplastics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
