Vigilis Viti Recyclable Wrap Guards

The Vigilis Viti Wrap Guard is manufactured from UV-stabilised polypropylene — a widely recycled plastic. Unlike vine guards left to fragment in the field, the Wrap Guard is designed to be removed, reused across multiple seasons where possible, and returned for recycling at end of life. This makes it a practical choice for UK and European vineyards under pressure to reduce single-use plastics in agricultural operations.

The Wrap Guard uses an openable wrap design with a 90 mm diameter, suited for young grapevines at establishment. It reopens completely for pruning, bud rubbing and inspection without removing the guard from the stake. The Vigilis Viti Shelter is a closed tube with an 83–110 mm diameter — better where animal pressure demands a fully enclosing barrier, or where the microclimate effect of a closed tube is needed on cooler sites. The Wrap Guard is available in four heights (40 cm, 50 cm, 60 cm and 75 cm); the Shelter in 60 cm.

Wrap the guard around the planted cane immediately after planting, aligning the vertical slot along the cane. Secure with a cable tie at mid-height and stake the vine alongside the guard — not through it. The wrap can be opened at any time for inspection, pruning or bud rubbing without full removal. To remove permanently, open from the top and slide off downward. No tools required. Inspect ties and guard stability each growing season and re-secure where needed.

The UV-stabilised polypropylene construction gives a minimum five-year field life under typical UK and Northern European conditions. Remove the wrap once the vine trunk has adequately hardened — usually by year three or four — to prevent any risk of constriction and to recover guards for reuse or recycling. Inspect annually and replace any guards showing physical damage or UV degradation.

Yes. Vigilis recyclable products are produced with up to 30% recycled plastic, predominantly from our own in-house production scrap. Keeping this stream closed-loop within our factory reduces virgin plastic use while maintaining the strength and UV stability needed for full establishment-period performance. At end-of-life, the product is fully recyclable through standard plastics recycling streams.
