Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Vigilis Shrub Shelter designed for?
The Vigilis Shrub Shelter is a shorter, wider guard designed to protect native hedgerow shrubs, wild plants, and conifers from rabbit and hare browsing during the first few years after planting. Its profile suits multi-stemmed growth habits better than a narrow tube shelter, making it the right choice for hawthorn, blackthorn, hazel, field maple, dog rose, and similar species.
Is the Vigilis Shrub Shelter recyclable?
Yes — the Vigilis Shrub Shelter is made from UV-stabilised polypropylene and can be collected and returned through the Vigilis Protect, Collect, Recycle scheme at the end of the shrub's establishment period. This makes it a responsible choice for large planting projects where sustainability reporting is required.
When should I remove the shrub shelter?
Remove the shrub shelter once the plant is established and browse-proof — typically 3–5 years after planting, depending on species and growth rate. If the shelter splits or begins to constrict growth, remove it sooner. After removal, collected shelters can be returned through the Vigilis recycling scheme. For a no-collection alternative, consider the Vigilis Bio Shrub Shelter, which degrades in situ.
Can shrub shelters be used on Countryside Stewardship planting schemes?
Yes — shrub shelters are accepted within Countryside Stewardship hedgerow and woodland edge agreements (e.g. BN7 and BN11). Always confirm accepted product types with your scheme adviser before ordering. Vigilis can provide product data sheets on request — contact us or ask your local distributor.
Does this product contain recycled content?
Yes. Vigilis recyclable products are produced with up to 30% recycled plastic, predominantly from our own in-house production scrap. Keeping this stream closed-loop within our factory reduces virgin plastic use while maintaining the strength and UV stability needed for full establishment-period performance. At end-of-life, the product is fully recyclable through standard plastics recycling streams.
